Springfield, Massachusetts

Like many other cities, Springfield Massachusetts was originally settled by the Pocomtuc Indians. It was founded in 1636 by William Pynchon who named it after a small town near his home town of Chelmsford Essex in England. It was always a small working town and due to warring with the Indians, half its town was destroyed. In 1845, the Wason Manufacturing Company was established there. It has a great architectural history being known as the City of Homes with is many magnificent Victorian Mansions.
There are many places to go and visit while you are in Springfield. Be sure to visit the Forest Park Zoo, Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Quadrangle Museums & Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden, National Armory Historic Site, MassMutual Center, CityStage and Symphony Hall, and the Titanic Museum. There are always some live arts and music events, ice skating, golf courses and other crafts and clubs to join.
